The Benedictine Players

“I regard the theater as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being.” ~ Thornton Wilder
SSA Students interested in the performing arts are invited to become a part of the Benedictine Players. Established in 1999 by Mrs. Patricia Schaff, the Benedictine Players strive to “seek God through all they do” as they bring plays and musicals to life. Each fall, the Benedictine Players take the stage to produce an independent play. Their spring musical is a joint production with St. Paul’s Marian Players.

Choir

“We sing because we can’t speak anymore.” ~ Kristen Chenoweth
SSA’s choir program consists of elective classes as well as a newly established liturgical choir. The Choral Doves bring beauty and harmony through song to various events and Masses throughout the year. The winter and spring concerts are not to be missed as the students in the elective classes showcase their talents and gifts.

Journalism

The Introduction to Journalism course teaches students the basics of journalism and the news media industry. Topics include journalistic ethics and the First Amendment; mis/disinformation, fake news, and bias; vetting sources for credibility; social media’s role in the industry, algorithms, and clickbait; AP style writing; and newspaper sections, beats, ledes, and headlines. Writing skills focus on conciseness, clarity, and the inverted pyramid model.
Simultaneously, students write and publish content for The Nest and record episodes of Flock Talk, SSA’s student podcast.

Yearbook

The Yearbook class is a creative and collaborative course where students design and produce the school's annual yearbook. Students gain hands-on experience in photography, graphic design, writing, and editing while capturing the memories of the school year. This class fosters teamwork, organization, and attention to detail as students work together to create a lasting keepsake for their peers. Whether you're interested in storytelling, layout design, or photography, Yearbook is a great way to showcase your creativity and school spirit!

Visual Arts

Our Visual Art Department offers a diverse range of courses designed to inspire creativity and develop artistic skills. Students can explore foundational techniques in Art I and Art II, advance their skills in Art III, and prepare professional-level portfolios in AP Studio Art. Those interested in three-dimensional work can take Ceramics I and II, where they learn pottery techniques and sculptural design. Additionally, students can earn college credit through Digital Image Dual Enrollment (LSU), gaining expertise in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Whether you're a beginner or an advanced artist, our program provides the tools and guidance to grow as a creative thinker and visual storyteller.
