  • How many girls attend St. Scholastica Academy and what is the size of each class?

    Total enrollment is approximately 557 young women from the Louisiana parishes of St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Orleans and Washington. The number of students per class varies, however class size is approximately 19 students.
  • What are the advantages to an all-girls school?

    Research has demonstrated that girls achieve a higher level of academic success in an all-girl environment when compared to their counterparts in a coed school. According to the Wall Street Journal, all-girls schools "help females to get away from the traditional social conditioning and give them the freedom to show what they can do.” The October 27, 1993 issue of Education Week states,"Compared with their counterparts at other schools, girls in all-girls’ schools take math and science courses at double the national average.” At SSA, 100% of our students take five years of math and English, and four years of science and social studies.
  • What types of classes does SSA offer?

    SSA offers  AP, honors, dual enrollment and college-prep core and elective classes. The academic environment at SSA promotes personal growth and academic achievement. We have students of varied abilities and our college-preparatory curriculum gives the young women who attend SSA a well-rounded educational experience that prepares them for college.   • My daughter sometimes struggles. Does SSA accept students with unique learning needs?

    Yes. Each case is decided individually. Students with learning differences must be able to master SSA’s academic programs with a minor adjustment plan provided to teachers by the Guidance Department. The Dean of Academics determines a possible minor adjustment plan to address learning differences.
  • What is SSA's Tuition?

    Registration Fees for 24-25 School year are as follows:
    • All Incoming New Students (Includes SOAR fee) $500
    • Current 9th, 10th, 11th Grade Students $400
    • Current 12th Grade Students (Includes Senior Fees) $800
    Tuition for 24-25 school year is $11,425 and Full payment is due on June 3rd, 2024
    SSA partners with Gulf Coast Bank to offer 10 month tuition loan financing and offers Tuition Assistance to qualified applicants.

    Tuition assistance is offered through an established needs-based program.
  • Can my daughter earn college credit for classes?

    SSA offers Advanced Placement (AP) courses as well as dual enrollment courses. AP classes in Art History, Biology, Calculus (AB), English Language and Composition, English Literature and Composition, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science, European History, Studio Art, Psychology, Civics/American Government, American History, which allow students to earn possible college credit through the College Board.

    Several dual enrollment courses are offered at St. Scholastica Academy. Psychology, Sociology, Music Appreciation and TV Production are offered through Southeastern University. College Algebra, College Trigonometry, Business Calculus, Calculus I, English Composition I and English Composition II are offered through Louisiana State University. Art Appreciation is offered through LA Tech and Engineering through the University of Texas at Austin. Dual enrollment courses allow students to simultaneously earn both high school and college credit. Courses are presented on SSA’s campus by an SSA instructor, who has been certified through the applicable university. Dual enrollment affords students the opportunity to earn college credit while in high school. Students requesting to schedule these courses for college credit can opt to register through the applicable university for a discounted tuition, although, it is not a requirement. All students scheduled for these courses, however, will follow the same college curriculum. Students requesting these courses must be in the 11th or 12th grade and meet the course eligibility criteria, as outlined by the applicable university. Dual enrollment courses will follow the academic calendar for the applicable university. This includes examinations. Grade calculations will adhere to the policies for the applicable university and will be assigned according to the university’s grading scale specified by its credit-issuing department.
     
  • What types of extracurricular activities does SSA provide?

    SSA is committed to the development of the whole student. The Academy offers over 40 extracurriculars, including: academic and service clubs, publications, liturgical groups, drama, dance, chorus, speech and sports.
  • What will my daughter’s schedule be like?

    SSA is on a rotating block schedule. On this schedule students take eight complete course per year, allowing them to receive 36 high school credits instead of the 24 required by the state or the 28-32 granted by schools with a seven period day.
  • I understand that SSA is a Catholic school. Do students of other religions also attend?

    Yes, there are students of other religious faiths who attend SSA. All students regardless of religious practices, however, are required to take a theology course and attend an off-campus retreat each year. Learning about the Catholic faith provides non-Catholics a perspective and a background of understanding for SSA’s Catholic school program. All are enriched by the school’s mission to educate young women for personal, spiritual and academic growth, service and leadership.
St. Scholastica Academy is a Catholic, all-girls, college-preparatory high school located in Covington, Louisiana. Founded in 1903, SSA perpetuates the Benedictine tradition of balancing prayer, work, study, and community in developing adolescent girls into Christian women grounded in the Gospel values of the Catholic faith. St. Scholastica Academy is a Catholic girls high school of the Archdiocese of New Orleans.
